The Greatness of God

“Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised. In the city of our God, His holy mountain.”  ~ Psalm 48:1
This week we’ve had the opportunity to review the attributes of God and get a taste of what the next eight weeks will be like. On Day Two what struck me most were the three ways we are gripped by God.  As McDonald writes, “Being gripped involves your mind, your emotions and your will.” I have to be honest in saying that I never knew God’s grip was so personal. I had assumed that being “gripped” was a one-time event which took place in our past, perhaps linked to our conversion and salvation. However, as we are learning in our study, His grip is far more profound, in that it has a daily affect on our lives since His grip “grows our knowledge,” causes us to “feel something” and calls us to “do something.” Isn’t our God great!? He is greatly to be praised.

Where in your life are there obstacles that stand in the way of God’s grip being this personal?

What will you “do differently” this week to allow His grip to include your mind, emotion and will?

  1. I think the biggest obstacle in becoming closer to God is myself. My life is wrought with schedules and meetings, with my idea that it’s just too much and I’m too busy for a BIG God. God has to make a “divine appointment” to get my attention sometimes. What I am trying to get back into the habit of doing is not just reading the Bible in the morning but finding just 3 minutes or less to read a few verses in the Psalms or Proverbs and pray. Yeah, I have only done that one day this week….baby steps.
