“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body … Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:12, 27
Foundation Principle 3 : Our God-given purpose is best lived out through community.
Last month’s principle reminded us that God is a relational being. Throughout the gospels, we witness Jesus working as one with the Father and the Holy Spirit to fulfill His purpose on earth. For instance, in Luke 3 we see the Father and Holy Spirit participating in Jesus’ baptism. Like Christ, our God-given purpose is best lived out with others in community.
Anytime we work together with others on a project, we contribute our part to create an exceptional work of art. For instance, if we’re working on film, we need the screenwriter who creates the foundation of the story, the director who brings the vision for the artistic, dramatic and technical aspects of the screenplay, the actors who bring the characters to life, and the editors who take the raw footage of the film, select shots and combine them into sequences to create a finished motion picture.
The world calls this collaboration but God calls it community. We are relational even as creative artists because we are the body of Christ– the true expression of God in community. Let’s remind ourselves that living in community is the fulfillment of our God-given purpose.
Where in your life do you feel isolated or lonely?
Which community (communities) help you live out God’s purpose for your life?
In what specific ways will you live out your God-given purpose in community this week?
Sharing in community with you,
