“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance of what we do not see.” ~Hebrews 11:1
In our last blog, we introduced Brene Brown’s book, The Gifts of Imperfection and discussed how during difficult circumstances our faith is tested and strengthened. In week 4 of our e-course, we discussed the notion of letting go of the need for certainty.
In an uncertain world, however, how do we strive to exercise faith? Hebrews reminds us that faith is something we are certain of yet cannot see. As Brene explains, “Faith is a place of mystery, where we find the courage to believe in what we cannot see and the strength to let go of our fear of uncertainty” (90).
Our daily choice to believe in what we cannot see can be challenging, especially in an unstable industry like Hollywood. Brown’s admonition, however, that we can “let go of our fear of uncertainty,” is exactly where we can ask for God’s help in putting our faith in action. Trusting in His unchanging attributes of faithfulness, grace, sovereignty and peace provide us the stability we need to step out in faith.
